Father Galen Long

Father Galen Long, 67, Plainville, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Salina Regional Health Center.

He was born April 23, 1944, in Norton to Andrew and Regina (Otter) Long and grew up near Beloit.

He served in the U.S. Navy, taught school in Mitchell County and was ordained a Catholic priest in 1991. He was the pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainville, and St. Thomas Catholic Church, Stockton.

Survivors include five brothers, Don, Arvada, Colo., Charles, Beloit, Rob and Carl, Bella Vista, Ark., and Father Melvin Long, Palm Springs, Calif.; and a sister, Joyce Highland, Beloit.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Church, Beloit; burial in St. John Cemetery, with full military honors.

A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Church.

Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Elementary School, Plainville.
