Floyd Edward Thayer

Floyd Edward Thayer, 92, Bunker Hill, formerly of St. John, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at Kansas Christian Home, Newton.

He was born Oct. 10, 1920, in Maywood, Neb., to Lawrence and Alta Pearl (Smith) Thayer. He graduated from Maywood High School.

He married Irene Chase. She preceded him in death in 1968. He later married Elsie Alphia Ferguson. She preceded him in death in 2006. He was a laborer and handyman for farmers and oil companies.

Survivors include a son, Ray Thayer, Minitare, Neb.; two daughters, Pat Steckman, Bunker Hill, and Lorna Simmonds, Fort Morgan, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Katherine Moeller, Republic; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant son and infant daughter, Floyd Thayer and Janice Thayer; a daughter, Joyce Harris; a step-daughter, Betty Wells; two grandsons; and a great-grandson.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Bunker Hill Cemetery; cremation has preceded the services.

Friends can sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell.

Memorials are suggested to KSU Basic Cancer Research in care of the mortuary.
