Francis J. "Frank" Walters, 89, Topeka, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at St. Francis Health Center.

He was born Dec. 8, 1923, in Hays to Jacob Peter and Amalia (Staab) Walters.

He married Betty Marie Schmich on Nov. 16, 1968, in Herculaneum, Mo. He owned and operated the Halstead Hospital Coffee Shop for 28 years and Shawnee County Courthouse Snack Bar for eight years.

He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and Topeka Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired.

Survivors incude his wife; two daughters, Sheila Stevenson and husband, Darrell, Branson, Mo., and Brenda Dunning and husband, Steve, Hutchinson; a brother, George Walters, Placentia, Calif.; a sister, Alice Gerstner, Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren, Emily Walch, Jenny Macomber, and Hailey, Lauren and Grant Dunning; and five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Kole, Addison, Bennett and Kaitlynn.

He was preceded in death by a son, Larry J. Walters on Nov. 20, 1986; six brothers, Clarence, Ray, Elmer, Bill, Herb and Edward Walters; and a sister, Luella Kuhn.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew Catholic Church; inurnment will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Halstead Cemetery.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to St. Matthew Catholic Church, Talking Books Service at the Shawnee County Library or the American Diabetes Association in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW Sixth Ave., Topeka, KS 66603.
