Franklin David Mewhinney

Franklin David Mewhinney, 60, Hays, died Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Hays Good Samaritan Center.

He was born May 27, 1949, in Denver, to Edward and Marjorie (Speck) Mewhinney.

He worked on a pulling unit in the oil fields for several years and was a plumber.

Survivors include four sons, Anthony, Brian, Jonathan and Darin, all of Hays; two daughters, April Burd, Hays, and Melissa Mewhinney, Alabama; a brother, Edward Mewhinney Jr., Pittsburgh; two sisters, Elizabeth Mapes, Burlington, and Elsie Grogg, Holton; two grandsons; and five granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ernest Mewhinney.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays.

Memorial are suggested to be used according to the wishes of the family in care of the funeral home.
