George H. "Slick" Sleichter, 85, Hays, died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 10, 1925, in Salina to Everett E. and Edna M. (Knoch) Sleichter.

He married Phyllis Dorene Meade on Sept. 20, 1947, in Hays. He had worked for Kansas Nebraska Gas Co. and then started his own oilfield construction company known as Slick's Ditching Service of Palco. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Hays.

Survivors include his wife, of the home, in Hays; a son, Kirk Sleichter and wife, JeanAnn, Wichita; a daughter, Sheryl Terry and husband, Bill, Great Bend; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert, and a sister, Louise.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Hays; graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Pleasantview Cemetery, Palco, with military services by Hays VFW.

Friends can call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine, and from 1 p.m until time of service Saturday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church, Hays, or Hospice of Hays Medical Center, both in care of the funeral home.
