Gerald A. "Gerry" Schaffer, 73, Hoxie, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, in Colby.

He was born Nov. 28, 1939, in Hoxie to John P. and Regina (Kinderknecht) Schaffer.

He married Darlene (Moos) Schaffer on Aug. 8, 1964, in Grinnell. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Steve Schaffer and wife, Laura, Lone Tree, Colo., and Robert Schaffer and wife, Amy, Scottsdale, Ariz.; two daughters, Susan May and husband, Roger, Oberlin, and Sharon Lancaster and husband, Gene, Independence, Mo.; a brother, Jim Schaffer and wife, Patty, Hays; and 10 grandchildren, Ryan May, Erin May, John Schaffer, Kate Schaffer, Abygail Mason, Madeline Mason, Zoe Mason, Ally Schaffer, Nicholas Schaffer and Jack Schaffer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Hoxie; burial in St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Cemetery, Hoxie, with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard, Fort Riley.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie.

A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church or Sheridan Amusement Company in care of the funeral home.
