Gerald R. Bunker, 64, Hays, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 13, 1945, in Hays to Robert and Freda (Glass) Bunker.

He married Janice Joy on Aug. 23, 1969, in Hays. He obtained a bachelor's and a master's degree from Fort Hays State University.

After graduating, he taught school and was an athletic coach. He later was an insurance salesman for Federated Mutual Insurance Co., retiring in 2005.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Ty Bunker and wife, Dawn, Ellis, Ben Bunker and wife, Jenny, Fort Worth, Texas, and Daniel Bunker, Topeka; his father, St. John's Nursing Home in Hays; two granddaughters, Desiree and Ashleigh, both of Ellis; and a grandson, Austin, Fort Worth, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his mother in January 1978; an infant daughter, Melinda in February 1973; and an infant sister, Arlene.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Michael Episcopal Church, Hays; graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis.

Friends can call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine.

Memorials are suggested to Humane Society of the High Plains or the Western Kansas Animal Refuge, both of Hays, in care of the funeral home.
