Gilbert F. 'Gib' Schippers

Gilbert F. "Gib" Schippers, 86, Hays, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 17, 1927, in Victoria to Frank and Anna (Reichert) Schippers. He was a 1945 graduate of Victoria High School.
He married Rosalyn Pfeifer on June 2, 1951, in Walker. He owned and operated Gib's Auto Supply in Hays since 1964 and was parts manager at Vincent Motors in Russell for 12 before moving to Hays. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a member of Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Knights of Columbus Third Degree, both of Hays, and St. Fidelis Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Victoria.
He was a former chairman of the Ellis County Fair Board. He coached Little League baseball and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in all of their activities. He was active in the community during his time in Russell, as well as involved in many activities, organizations and schools in Hays. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Gerald Schippers and wife, Darlene, and Tony Schippers and wife, Vicki, all of Hays; a daughter, Theresa Brown, Hutchinson; a daughter-in-law, Karla Davignon and husband, Lynn, Ellis; a sister, Eleanor Schippers, Victoria; 11 grandchildren, Susan Austin, Sarah Hagan, Simon Schippers, Logan Brown, Chelsea Brown, Becky Hickert and husband, Tim, Jeni Park an husband, Dustin, Nathan Schippers and wife, (Amber), Hannah Schippers, Colby Schippers and Ryan Schippers; 15 great-grandchildren; and three brothers-in-law, Albert R. Pfeifer and wife, Arlene, Norman Dale Pfeifer and wife, Gladys, all of Victoria, and Larry Pfeifer and wife, Karen, Humble, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Schippers; a daughter, Mary Schippers; and a brother, Francis Schippers.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, with military honors by Hays VFW and American Legion.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday, both at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays, KS 67601.
A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6 p.m. Friday, a vigil will be at 7 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus Third and Fourth Degree rosary at 7:30 p.m., all at the mortuary.
The Fourth Degree will stand honor guard from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to Thomas More Prep-Marian High School, St. Joseph Catholic Church or Catholic Campus Center in care of the mortuary.
