Gilbert Julius "Bert" Rohr, 88, Garden City, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Homestead Health & Rehabilitation Center, Garden City.

He was born Aug. 27, 1924, in Munjor to Lawrence P. and Katherine (Doerfler) Rohr. He attended grade school in Munjor.

He married Edna Marie Wasinger on July 31, 1944, in Antonino. They lived in Antonino from 1944 to 1964, then moved to Salina. She preceded him in death Jan. 5, 1978. He later married Rosina Dreher Brungardt on May 11, 1985, in Hays. They lived in Salina until 1988, when they moved to Garden City. He was a lifetime trucker, working for Felton Truck Line in Antonino and Graves Truck Line in Salina. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from October 1945 to February 1947.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, St. Mary Catholic Church, Salina, a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, VFW, the Salina Municipal Men's Golf Association and the Salina Men's Bowling Association.

Survivors include his wife, Garden City; a son, Lloyd J. Rohr, Lindsborg; two daughters, Brenda A. Rohr and Linda Cardinal, both of Wichita; five stepsons, Jerry Brungardt and wife, Jeanette, Ernest Brungardt and wife, Robin, Glenn Brungardt and wife, Evanna, Harvey Brungardt and wife, Sherri, and Larry Brungardt and wife, Mindy, all of Garden City; four brothers, Floyd Rohr and wife, Margie, Hays, Vernon Rohr and wife, Annette, Wichita, Walter Rohr, Florida, and LeRoy Rohr and wife, Marie, Oklahoma; two sisters, Ruth Pheifer and Esther Ruder, both of Hays; a grandchild; 17 step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 33 step-great-grandchildren; a step-great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Dale Rohr and Joseph Rohr; a sister, Philomena Zimmerman; and two brothers, Elmer Rohr and the Rev. Vincent.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Salina; burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina, with military graveside rites.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Thursday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, both at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Additional visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

A vigil/rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, area hospice or Homestead Health & Rehabilitation Center, all in care of Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, or Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
