Gradda Tien, 106, Phillipsburg, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Phillips County Retirement Center, Phillipsburg.

She was born June 7, 1907, in Prairie View to John and Hattie (Schemper) Velhuizen.

She married Garrit Tien on Feb. 2, 1927, in Tracy, Iowa. He preceded her in death April 21, 1971.

Survivors include two sons, Arlo Gale Tien and wife, Carolyn, Prairie View, and Edward Tien and wife, Barb, Phillipsburg; five daughters, Henrietta Van Kooten, Long Island, Marie Bousema, Worthington, Minn., Dorothy Huyser and husband, Gerald, Des Moines, Iowa, Rosalee Verhoef, Artesia, Calif., and Carmen Van Beek, Boyden, Iowa; a brother, Dale Veldhuizen, Oskaloosa, Iowa; a sister, Veda Bousema, Sanborn, Iowa; 27 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; and 52 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Luctor Christian Reformed Church, Phillips County; burial in Luctor Cemetery, Phillips County.

She will lie in state until 5 p.m. Monday and from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, with family receiving friends from 3 to 5 p.m. for visitation, all at Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.

Memorials are suggested to Luctor Christian Reformed Church, Phillips County Retirement Center or Hospice Services Inc. in care of the funeral home.
