Gregory G. Close, 51, Oakley, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at University of Kansas Hospital.

He was born Aug. 19, 1961, in Newton and was adopted Oct. 27, 1961, by Glen and Ruth Marie (Gidley) Close in Newton. He was a 1979 graduate of Oakley High School and a 1980 graduate of Northwest Kansas Technical College.

He worked for Close Inc. from childhood to 1994, then farmed with his father.

He was an avid race car driver and later become a tech official at Rolling Plains Motor Speedway, Hays.

He was a member of the JC's and Oakley United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his father; two daughters, Melissa Marie Lippelmann and husband, Milo, Oberlin, and Nicole Marie Close, Oakley; a sister, Melinda Moeder and husband, Mike, Oakley; a granddaughter, Ryllie Marie Lippelmann; and a niece, Ashlyn Marie Moeder, Oakley.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Buffalo Bill Cultural Center, Oakley; burial in Monument Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to KU Medical Research in care of Baalmann Mortuary, P.O. Box 204, Oakley, KS 67748.
