Harold Arthur Deutscher, 90, Ellis, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, in Kansas City, Mo.

He was born July 17, 1923, west of Ellis to Gustav and Mary (Spilker) Deutscher.

He married Pauline Sundquist Scott on Dec. 31, 1965, in Ellis. He was a farmer and stockman. He was concerned with good farming practices and awarded a KBA Soil Conservation in 1988.

In his youth, he enjoyed playing baseball with his cousins and was an avid bowler.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Ellis, and belonged to Elks Club, Hays.

Survivors include his wife; a sister, Betty Calvert, Hays; a niece, Kathryn Calvert, Wichita; a nephew, William Calvert, Salina; two stepchildren, Susan Campbell, Saugerties, N.Y., and James Scott, Castle Rock, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Cecil Calvert Jr.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church, Ellis; burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis, KS 67637, and from 1 p.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church or Good Samaritan Society, Ellis, in care of the funeral home.
