Harold E. Broadie

Harold E. "Hal" Broadie, 78, Manhattan, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital,Topeka.

He was born Aug. 22, 1929, in Ashland to Martha Hallie (Baker) and Elmer Rinker Broadie. He was a 1947 graduate of Ashland High School and earned a bachelor of science degree in agricultural economics from Kansas State University in 1951.

He married Phyllis Burns on Aug. 18, 1950, in Ashland. He was a banker in Caldwell, Larned and Hays for 30 years. He was a U.S Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War.

He was past District Governor for Rotary International and held positions of leadership in First United Methodist Churches. He was a loyal K-State Alumni and was awarded the KSU Family of the Year in 2006. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity at Kansas State. He was a gifted singer and member of the K.S.U. Glee Club and church choirs.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; four daughters, Cyndy Platt and husband, David, Junction City, Ann Hamilton and husband, Randy, Kansas City, Kan., Marilyn Fox and husband, Larry, Manhattan, and Lisa Cook and husband, Dave, Boone, Iowa; two sisters, Marciel Tucker, Colorado, and Margaret Keller, New York; and eight grandchildren, Brian Platt, Austin, Texas, Laura Platt, and Jeffrey Hamilton, both of Kansas City, Kan., Grant Hamilton. Fort Worth, Texas, Bethany and Weston Fox, both of Manhattan, and Hallie and Christian Cook, both of Boone, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Raymond Broadie; and a sister, Hallie Leben.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church; burial in Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan, with military honors.

Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Sheltering Embrace Hospice House Campaign in care of Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.
