James Leroy Heeler

James Leroy Heeler, 81, Smith Center, formerly of Beloit, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at his home.

He was born May 22, 1927, in Mitchell County to Phillip and Mabel (Griffin) Heeler. He was a 1945 graduate of Beloit High School.

He married Margie I. Henry on Feb. 27, 1949, in Beloit. He worked for Gas Service Company/KPL for 37 years. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, James Heeler, Smith Center; two daughters, Sheila Birch, Farmington, Ark., and Janice Heide, Norfolk, Va,; a sister, Ruth Caselman, Florence, Colo.; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia.

Services were held July 15 at United Methodist Church, Smith Center.

Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church, Smith Center, American Heart Association or American Legion Baseball Fund of Smith County in care of Simmons/Rentschler Funeral Home.
