Irene Calderon-Vasquez, 78, Hays, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 28, 1936, in Durango, Mexico, to Ines Calderon and Florencia Vasquez.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

She was a caring, cheerful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening, watching television and spending time watching her favorite soap operas. She always was happy, cheerful and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include six sons, Gabriel Guzman, Javier Guzman, Agustin Guzman, Jose Guzman, Jaime Calderon and Antonio Guzman; six daughters, Yolanda Franco, Gudalupe Cortez, Teresa Hernandez, Maria Luz Ramirez, Marta Alicia Ramirez, and Angela Gutierrez; five brothers, Luis Calderon, Pedro Calderon, Silvestre Calderon, Benjamin Calderon and Ramiro Calderon; a sister, Felipa Calderon: 44 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Eduardo Guzman; and a brother, Andres Calderon.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.

Friends can visit from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, and from 5 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Saturday at the activity center of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays.

Memorials are suggested to Irene Calderon-Vasquez Memorial Fund to be decided at a later date in care of the funeral home.
