JB Gilmore, 90, Hays, died Monday, March 4, 2013, at Ellis Good Samaritan Center.
He was born May 11, 1922, in Willard, Mo., to William S. and Edna (Hardin) Gilmore. He attended business college in Hutchinson.
He was the owner of Gilmore Construction and Hays Pump Service. He was a master sergeant with the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in Australia, New Guinea and the Phillipines.
He was a member of Hays VFW and Hays American Legion.
He enjoyed reading and politics.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mary Katherine Gilmore, Hartford, Conn; a nephew, Tom Gilmore and wife, Sharon, Overland Park, and their daughter, Stephanie Sharifi and husband, Mike, Katy, Texas, and their son, John P. Gilmore and wife, Elizabeth, Overland Park; a niece, Carolyn McGovern and husband, Dan, Walnut Creek, Calif., and their daughter, Katherine Pizzi and husband, Rich; a niece, Virginia Vocelli and husband, Robert, West Hartford, Conn.; a nephew, Louis C. Gilmore and wife, Karen, Hays, and their daughter, Kristen Gilmore and fiancé, Tyson Heaton, Kearney, Neb.; and many great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl C. Gilmore, and Pascal Gilmore; and two sisters, Pauline Gilmore and Josephine Amos.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine; burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Wesley Cemetery, Willard, Mo., with military honors.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
