Jacob N. Berens, 88, Russell, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Wheatland Nursing Home, Russell.

He was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Walker to Herman H. and Anna (Riedel) Berens. He grew up in Walker and the Hyacinth area and attended country schools.

He married Marcella M. Wasinger on Oct. 24, 1944, in Hays. He worked for Oilfield Services and the city of Russell Power Plant as an operator, retiring in 1989.

Survivors include his wife, Russell; a son, Ronald Berens, Belle Plaine; two daughters, Diane Fitzpatrick, Wichita, and Carol Mowry, Olathe; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Russell; burial in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Russell.

Visitation will be until 5 p.m. Friday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell.

A rosary/vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to American Parkinson Disease Association in care of the mortuary.
