Vern I. Jacobs, 54, Hays, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at his home.

He was born Aug. 8, 1959, in Hays to Irvin J. and Verna Mae (Gross) Jacobs. He was a 1976 graduate of Hays High School.

He was a truck driver for Skillet & Sons, La Crosse, and an avid archery and rifle hunter.

He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed visiting family, especially his nieces and nephews.

Survivors include four brothers, Neal Jacobs and wife, Judy, Grand Island, Neb., Doyle Jacobs, Lincoln, Neb., Gary Jacobs, Overland Park, and Roy Jacobs and wife, Jana, Orleans, Neb.; three sisters, Debra Roth and husband, Marvin, and Dora Gauntt and husband, Bryan, all of Manhattan, and Jenny Arndt and husband, David, Minneapolis; two stepbrothers, Lee Dinkel and wife, Danna, Flower Mound, Texas, and Jeff Dinkel and wife, Marcia, Hays; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carla Messmore; and a stepmother, Carolyn Jacobs.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine; inurnment in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends can call from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Cancer Council of Ellis County in care of the funeral home.
