James Richard Line, 87, Russell, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013.

He was born Jan. 19, 1926, in Port Royal, Pa., to George W. and Margaretta (Kepner) Line. He was a 1944 graduate of Akron North. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.

He married Cheryl Hogue on Dec. 21, 1952, in Topeka. She preceded him in death. He worked for several oil companies before settling in Russell in 1963, where he became an oil and gas consultant. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Line, Leawood, and Steven, Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Meridy Barnes, Russell, and Kristy Buyle, Olathe; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church; burial in Russell City Cemetery, with military rites by Russell VFW Post No. 6240 Honor Guard.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family present from 6 to 7 p.m. at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church Organ Fund in care of the mortuary.
