Jeff F. Weigel, 44, Hays, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born April 9, 1965, to Elmer J. and Bernita (Meis) Weigel. He was a 1984 graduate of Hays High School.

He was a well-known movie critic for The Hays Daily News and also wrote a column called "Make Me Laugh," in which he interviewed many comedians that performed locally at Stadium Club.

He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the WKACD, the Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council No. 10211, the Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and he was the treasurer for his Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council.

Survivors include his parents, Hays; a brother, Dave Weigel, Wichita; two sisters, Sandy Augustine and husband, Daryl, Hays, and Shelly Weigel, Wichita; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Pam Herbert; and a nephew, Jackson Cole Augustine.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 1 p.m. until time of service Wednesday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a combined thirrd and fourth degree Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30, all at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
