Jennifer Kathleen Wannamaker Simpkins, 63, Ellis, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Galatia Heart Hospital, Wichita.

She was born June 22, 1950, in Hays to Jim and Agnes (Waldschmidt) Wannamaker. She was a graduate of Marian High School and received a bachelor's degree in nursing from Fort Hays State University. She was a registered nurse for many years at St. Anthony Hospital and Hays Medical Center. She worked as a registered nurse at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care, and was a flight nurse for a short time. She was an ambulance registered nurse while transporting patients.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis. She was an avid amateur photographer, loved the outdoors and camping, was fond of horses and enjoyed going to Hays City Sportsman Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Sonya Simpkins, Los Angeles; her mother, Agnes Wannamaker, Ellis; a brother, Pete Wannamaker and wife, Teri, Topeka; and two sisters, Jean Wannamaker Benedict, Hays and Lenexa, and Jackie Shubert and husband, Bruce, Manhattan.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother-in-law, Russ Benedict.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis; inurnment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis.

Friends can call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday, both at the church.

A rosary and vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested in her memory to American Heart Association.
