Jimmy J. Bowles
Jimmy J. Bowles, 79, Hays, formerly of Atwood, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born April 12, 1929 in McCook, Neb., to James A. and Metha (Buck) Bowles. He was a 1947 graduate of Atwood High School and received a business administration degree from Denver University in 1955.
He married Patricia A. Schenk on Sept. 18, 1954, in Hays. She preceded him in death Feb. 1, 2008. He was owner of Bowles Chevrolet, Atwood, for more than 20 years. He recently retired from Williams Bros. Supermarket, Atwood, where he was a scanning coordinator. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Atwood, choir director for many years at Sacred Heart, Knights of Columbus, Rotary International and Atwood American Legion.
Survivors include four daughters, Cathy Pfannenstiel and husband, Doug, Bev Schmeidler and husband, Steve, and Jan Cutright, all of Hays, and Leslie Erwine and husband, Scott, Baldwin City; a brother, Lyle Bowles, Atwood; a sister, Ada Lee Cox and husband, J.B., Atwood; a sister-in-law, Creta Bowles, Topeka; nine grandchildren, Barry Baumfalk and wife, Dr. Ramona Baumfalk, Olathe, Ariele Erwine, Lawrence, Austin Cutright, Overland Park, Arin Cutright, Megan, Molly and Macks Schmeidler and Rachel Pfannenstiel, all of Hays, and Kyle Erwine, Baldwin City; and a great-grandchild, Sydney Baumfalk.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; his parents; a brother, Buddy Bowles; a sister, Betty Skolout; and an infant sister, Marcella.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, with military honors by the Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, both at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays.
A wake will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and choir or to the Atwood Second Century Fund in care of the chapel.
