Joe D. Lane, 75, Hoisington, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington.

He was born Jan. 8, 1937, in Hoisington to Gerald and Verda (Fox) Lane.

He married Dolores "Lori" Demel on Dec. 29, 1960, in Odin.

He was as a postal carrier retiring in 1999, and previously worked at the Hoisington Dispatch and the Claflin Clarion.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1955 to 1959.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus No. 1521 and Lake Barton Golf Club where he enjoyed the companionship of his friends.

He enjoyed his children and grandchildren's activities and all Hoisington Cardinal sporting events.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; four sons, David Lane, Topeka, Michael Lane and wife, Patti, Hays, Mark Lane, McPherson, and John Lane and wife, Jill, Great Bend; two daughters, Lori Keller and husband, Kevin, Great Bend, Joan Schmidt and husband, Daniel, Hoisington; a brother, Richard Lane and wife, Jean, Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Kathy Demel and husband, Bernard, Norman, Okla., and Maureen Gant and husband, Gene, Las Cruces, N.M.; a sister-in-law, Betty Lane, Albuquerque, N.M.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Larry Lane.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington; burial in St. John Church Cemetery, Hoisington.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington.

A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, both at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Clara Barton Foundation Verda Lane Nursing Scholarship Endowment, St. Rose Foundation to benefit the Heartland Cancer Center and Kans for Kids in care of the funeral home.
