John E. Drake Jr., 87, formerly of Russell, died Monday, June 11, 2012, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 25, 1924, in Lakin to John E. Sr. and Bessie Catherine (Taylor) Drake.
He was owner and operator of Drakes Engine Service for 30 years in the Russell County area.
Survivors include a stepson, Kevin Rankin, Solomon; a stepdaughter Kellie Rankin, Russell; five step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, in 2006; and his companion, Geneva Rankin.
Services will be held by his family at a later date; cremation has taken place.
Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell, is in charge of arrangements.
