John Joseph Mello Jr., 77, Russell, died Friday Nov. 22, 2013, at Wheatland Nursing Center, Russell.

He was born Aug. 27, 1936, in Stoneham, Mass., to John J. and Elizabeth V. (Doherty) Mello. He graduated from Winthrop High School.

He married Joyce E. Rounkles on April 23, 1960, in Topeka. He was a shipping manager for 18 years at Abco Wire & Metal prior to retirement. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran from 1955 to 1959.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, of the home; a son, John Mello, DeSoto; a daughter, Mary Bushnell, Gardner; two grandsons; and a great-grandson, Brock Bushnell.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell; private burial of ashes will follow the service.

Friends can sign the book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday with family present to greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary.
