John L. Lonnon, 84, Hays, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at Hays Good Samaritan Society.

He was born Feb. 8, 1929, in Hays to John J. and Inez (Louage) Lonnon. He was a graduate of Ellis High School and attended Fort Hays State University.

He married Carolyn Wasinger on Jan, 3, 1950, in Hays. She preceded him in death April 23, 2008. He was a Hays Post Office employee for many years, retiring Dec. 31, 1989.

He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was well-known in Hays for fixing bicycles, enjoyed going to auctions, garage sales and coin and stamp collecting.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas Lonnon and wife, Vanessa, Portland, Texas, and John R. Lonnon and wife, Patti, Hays; a daughter, Carol Hoke and husband, Robert, Hays; a brother, Merle Lonnon and wife, Phyllis, Arden Hills, Minn.; a sister, June Loveridge, Olathe; nine grandchildren, Thomas, Matthew, and Andrew Lonnon, all of Corpus Christi, Texas, Katie Naranjo, Missouri City, Texas, Angela Lonnon Klaus, Wichita, Dane Lonnon, Hays, Richard Hoke, Lee's Summit, Mo., James Hoke, Salina, and Sarah Vopat, Hays; and five great-grandchildren, Logan and Gracen Klaus, Wichita, Jenna Hoke, Lee's Summit, and Mason Lonnon and Cooper Vopat, both of Hays.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Eugene Lonnon; and a sister, Zoe Lonnon Moorehouse.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Monday, both at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Hays Good Samaritan Society in care of the funeral home.
