John Raymond Harkness

John Raymond Harkness, 49, Wichita, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, in Wichita.

He was born April 4, 1963, in Hays to Robert A. and Catherine M. (Dreiling) Harkness. He was a 1981 graduate of Thomas More Prep-Marian High School. He graduated from Fort Hays State University.

He enjoyed sports especially, Fort Hays State University, the University of Kansas, the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Survivors include two brothers, Robert H. Harkness, Hays, and Charles A. Harkness and wife, Donna, Wichita; a sister, Diane M. Kowal and husband, Allan, Overland Park; and two nieces, Dr. Megan (Kowal) Saettele and husband, Dr. Tim Saettele and Stephanie Kowal.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, both at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

A rosary will be at 6 p.m. Monday, followed by a vigil at 6:30 p.m., both at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Food Pantry in care of St. Joseph Church, 210 W. 13th, Hays KS 67601.
