Joseph A. Staab, 86, Hays, formerly of Catharine, died Thursday, May 23, 2013. at Via Christi Village, Hays.

He was born March 19, 1927, in Catharine to William and Catherine (Schuler) Staab.

He married Louise Meier on Aug. 9, 1950, in Antonino. He was a former mill operator for Hays Land and Cattle Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany in 1946.

He was a member of the Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and St. Catherine Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Garry and wife, JoAnn, Hays, and Dennis and wife, Diane, Basehor; seven daughters, Barbara McCormick, Sharon Howard, Diana Staab, Pam Munsch and husband, Cory, all of Hays, Wanda Pfannenstiel and husband, Tom, WaKeeney, Donna Perez and husband, Gabe, Lenexa, and Joann Lang and husband, Brian, Shawnee; two sisters, Betty Dechant, Hays, and Agnes Lundy, Westland, Mich.; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Felix, Dick, Eddie, Bill, Rich, Larry, and Alfred; an infant brother, Robert; a sister, Lexie Younger; two sons-in-law, Bob McCormick and Chuck Howard; and three infant granddaughters.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Catharine; burial in the church cemetery with military honors by the Hays VFW.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, both at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a vigil at 7 p.m., both at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Catherine Church, VFW of Hays or the Alzheimer Association in care of the funeral home.
