Joy McAdams Brewer Scott

Joy McAdams Brewer Scott entered eternal life on August 5, 2014. She was 80. Born in Hays, Kansas, Joy was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William Brewer of Hays.

Joy graduated from Hays High School and went on to earn a B.A. in English from the University of Kansas and an M.A. in Education from Harvard University.

During the past 29 years Joy divided her time between Chico, California, and Seattle, Washington. She was a devoted member of the Church of Christ, Scientists. She was an avid reader, enjoyed yoga and tai chi, and she volunteered at arts and civic organizations in both Seattle and Chico. Joy traveled extensively both with her family and on her own, and she taught English as a second language in Seattle and Hong Kong.

Joy is survived by her husband, Robert Haney Scott, by her children, William, Ann, Sarah, and Elizabeth, and by her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, William (Mac) Brewer of Tucson, Arizona, John Brewer of Lawrence, Kansas and Egon Sommer of Dickens, Nebraska.
