Katherine Schmidt, 91, Hays, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born May 11, 1922, in Hyacinth to John M. and Agnes (Spies) Younker.

She married Nicholas Schmidt on Nov. 14, 1944, in Hays. He preceded her in death April 22, 1963. She was a housekeeper at McMindes Hall at Fort Hays State University for 26 years and also worked for Rohr's Drapery and Rupp's Drapery.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She enjoyed sewing and playing bingo. She was a great seamstress and enjoyed making dresses for her four daughters.

Survivors include three daughters, Betty Augustine and husband, Laverne, Hays, Shirley Windholz and husband, Brian, Russell, and Gerri Johnson and husband, Don, Antonino; a brother, Walter Younker and wife, Mary, Antonino; two sisters, Twila Griffin and husband, Jim, Weatherford, Okla., and Florine Sander, Hays; a sister-in-law, Rita Younker, Plainville; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Patricia L. Davis and her husband, Harold Davis; a brother, Clarence Younker; and a sister, Lucille Staab.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine.

A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
