Kurt W. Kisner, 39, Hays, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 8, 1973, in Hays to Isadore "Izzy" and Matilda "Tillie" (Werth) Kisner. He was a graduate of Hays High School.

He was a detention officer at the Ellis County Sheriff's Department. Prior to the sheriff's office, he worked at St. John's for 10 years as an occupational therapist.

He enjoyed the outdoors, clay shooting, football and NASCAR.

Survivors include his fiance, Alane Slaughter, Hays; his mother and stepfather, Matilda Dannels and husband, Richard, Hays; two brothers, Kenneth Kisner and wife, Connie, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Keith D. Kisner, Atwood; a sister, Kelley Ferguson, Topeka; two nieces, Taylor Ferguson and Samantha R. Kisner; and five nephews, Brock D. Kisner, Max A. Kisner, Trevor Kisner, Tyler Kisner and Markeith Ferguson.

He was preceded in death by his father and a sister-in-law, Marlis Kisner, wife of Keith.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601; cremation will follow services and private family inurnment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, both at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Ellis County Sheriff's Department Memorial Fund or the American Heart and Lung Association in care of the funeral home.
