LaVerne D. Stieben, 61, Hays, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Methodist Hospital, Houston.

He was born Jan. 25, 1951, in Great Bend to William and Emma (Schwien) Stieben. He was a graduate of Pittsburg State University.

He married Dorothy Koerner on May 24, 1974, in Ness City. He was a partner in Bieker Insurance for many years.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1325, Optimist Club, NRA and the Smoky Hill Chapter of Pheasants Forever.

Survivors include his wife, of the home in Hays; a son, Jeremy, Denver; three daughters, Stephanie Stieben, Hutchinson, Ashley Lamb and husband, T.J., Ness City, and Amber Weigel and husband, Blake, Hays; a brother, Clyde and wife, Joan, Bazine; a sister, Karla Stallman and husband, Vernon, Hutchinson; two grandsons, Blake Stieben and Gunner Weigel; a future grandson, Lamb; 59 nieces and nephews; and 34 great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Donald and Gary.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the church and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine.

A vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m, both at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Thomas More Prep-Marian Booster Club or to LaVerne Stieben Memorial Fund to be used for youth pheasant hunts in care of the funeral home.
