LaVernne Johnson, 76, Gorham, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Golden Living Center, Wilson.

She was born Nov. 21, 1936, in Rooks County to Vernon and Leah (Mayo) Matheson. She was a 1954 graduate of Natoma High School.

She married Chester Webster on June 23, 1954. He preceded her in death. She later married Carl Johnson. He preceded her in death. She was a cook at Irene's Cafe in Russell.

Survivors include a son, Henry D. Webster, Shawnee, Okla.; a daughter, Doris Steinert, St. John; two brothers, Verneal Matheson, Holcomb, and Calvin Matheson, Iola; two sisters, Verna Munk, Gorham, and Mary Logsdon, Ponca City, Okla.; a grandchild; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Mount Hermon Cemetery, near Paradise; burial will follow immediately after the graveside service.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Friday, with family present from 6 to 7 p.m. at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell.

Memorials are suggested to Russell Food Pantry in care of the mortuary.
