Larry Gus Benedick

Larry Gus Benedick, 81, Duncan, Okla., formerly of Hays, Gillette, Wyo., and Liberal, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Duncan Regional Hospital, Duncan.

He was born Jan. 10, 1932, in Stockton to Virl Sheridan and Leta Adel (Merrill) Benedick. He attended Stockton schools.

He married Betty Kirkhart in 1950. He later married Carol Jean (Coble) Ingels on Dec. 26, 1985, in Karnack, Texas.

He was a member of Paradise Masonic Lodge No. 290 in Plainville and Elks Lodge in Liberal.

Survivors include his wife, Duncan; a son, Ken Benedick and wife, Charlie, Bristol, Va.; two daughters, Vickie Schmidt, Gillette, Wyo., and Nicki Toth and husband, Tim, Upton, Wyo.; his step-children, Sherry Niefert, Duncan, and Robert Ingels, McCook, Neb.; three brothers, Clayton Benedick, Syracuse, N.Y., George Benedick, Decatur, Texas, and Alan Benedick, Garden City; and a sister, Judy Nuss, Plainville; 13 grandchildren, Jory Schmidt, Staci Slocum, Shauna Oleson, Amy Uhrich, Matt Benedick, Erik Toth, Logan Toth, Maci Williams, Faith Christine Leatherman, Karrie Neifert, Shannon Culverson, Jason Ingels and Michelle Ingels; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-daughter, Susan Leatherman; a son-in-law, Tom Schmidt; and three sisters, Donavene Krob, Bethel Krob and Joyce Cotten.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel, Liberal; burial in Liberal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Faith's education fund in care of Carol Benedick and can be sent to the funeral home.
