Larry William Hilmes, 73, WaKeeney, died Saturday, June 9, 2012, at KU Medical Center, Kansas City.

He was born May 16, 1939, in Ransom to Henry and Armilla (Luetters) Hilmes.

He married Caroline (Mazanec) Hilmes on Jan. 23, 1971. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, WaKeeney; two sons, Bill Hilmes, WaKeeney, and Larry W. Hilmes Jr., Henderson, Nev.; four brothers, Fred Hilmes, Ness City, Dan Hilmes, Othello, Wash., Kenny Hilmes, WaKeeney, and Alan Hilmes, Indianapolis; a sister, Karen Interman, Dodge City; and a grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney; burial in Kansas Veterans Cemetery, WaKeeney, with military rites by Fort Riley Color Guard.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.

An Eagles service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Eagles Heart Fund or Gage Hilmes Educational Fund in care of the funeral home.
