Lawrence Eugene Nestler

Lawrence Eugene Nestler, 83, Russell, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Kenwood View Nursing Home, Salina.

He was born Aug. 23, 1930, in Russell to Herman and Bessie (Golding) Nestler. He grew up in and attended local schools in the Russell area.

He married Genevieve Gerene Strecker on Jan. 17, 1953, in Russell. She preceded him in death May 25, 2008. He was a pumper with Shield's Oil Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.

Survivors include four daughters, Sharon Apple, Gardner, Rosemary Elam and Sandra Strachan, both of Russell, and Kim Grizzle, Cushing, Okla.; two brothers, Bud Nestler, Salina, and Eddie Nestler, Russell; two sisters, Betty Klooster, Alexandria, La., and Ruthie Brundgardt, El Dorado; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell; burial in Russell City Cemetery, with military rites by the Russell VFW Post No. 6240.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Monday, with family present to greet guests from 6 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to the Russell VFW Post No. 6240 in care of the mortuary.
