LeRoy W. Brungardt

LeRoy W. Brungardt, 78, Ellis, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 13, 1933, in Victoria to Leo A. and Irene (Staab) Brungardt. He was a 1951 graduate of Hays High School.

He married Twila Mae Zimmerman on April 13, 1953, in Schoenchen. She preceded him in death Nov. 17, 1999. He later married Suzanne L. Brough on Aug. 17, 2002, in Elizabeth, Colo. He owned LeRoy's Welding in Hays and Colorado, and currently south of Ellis, for 25 years. He was a machinist at Travenol Labs in Hays for 15 years, and he and his first wife, Twila, owned Royal-T Cleaners in Hays for 10 years.

He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays. He was a member of Schoenchen Knights of Columbus Council No. 4166 and served as a past Grand Knight. He was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Bishop Cunningham Assembly No. 282, and he was serving as the district deputy.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Ralph Brungardt and wife, Lou Ann, Hays, and Terry Brungardt and wife, Kandi, Parker, Colo.; a stepson, John Koch, Ellis; two brothers, Charles H. Brungardt and wife, Rose, Richardson, Texas, and Richard L. Brungardt and wife, Shirley, Manhattan; a sister, Carol Atwood, Kansas City, Kan.; five grandchildren, Jessica Jacobs and husband, Trevor, Joshua Brungardt and wife, Emily, Jordan Brungardt, Travis Brungardt, and Ryan Brungardt and wife, Christina; a stepgrandson, James Frey; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin Jacobs, Greta Brungardt and Louis Brungardt.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 18th and Vine; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday, both at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays, KS 67601.

A vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m., both at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to Schoenchen Knights of Columbus in care of the mortuary.
