Gerald H. Legleiter, 78, Hays, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at St. John's Health Care Center, Hays.

He was born April 21, 1931, in Liebenthal to Anton and Genevieve (Schaffer) Legleiter.

He married Elizabeth Dreher on Sept. 1, 1952, in Schoenchen.

He owned and operated Home Lumber Co. in Hays from 1963 until his retirement. After retirement, he farmed and raised cattle. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Hays; four sons, Neil Legleiter and wife, Patty, and Gerald Legleiter Jr. and Kathy McGinnis, and Patrick Legleiter and wife, Tammy, all of Hays, and Mark Legleiter and wife, Kelly, Topeka; a daughter, Diantha Doyle and husband, Stuart, Kearney, Mo.; five brothers, Roy, Great Bend, Dennis, Gorham, Walter, Harold and Miles, all of Hays; four sisters, Dorothy McCollum, Virginia Kinderknecht, Germaine Degenhardt and Patricia Rohr, all of Hays; five grandchildren, Brett Doyle, Melissa Jensen, Nathan Legleiter, Conner Legleiter and Dylan Legleiter; and three great-grandchildren, Brandon Doyle, Breanna Doyle and Cuylar Jensen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, Wilfred "Fritz," Donald, Tony and Melvin Legleiter.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today and from 10:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday, both at the church.

A vigil will be at 6:15 p.m. today at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Parkinson's Foundation, or donor's choice in care of Brock's North Hill Chapel Funeral Home, 2509 Vine, Hays.
