Laurian Leiker, 75, Ellis, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Kay Pogue Hospice Center, Salina.
He was born May 29, 1937, in Victoria to Pius and Anna (Sander) Leiker. He was a 1955 graduate of Victoria High School, attended Fort Hays State College and moved to Ellis in 1962.
He married Janice Jacobs on Feb. 1, 1958, in Victoria. He was park manager at Cedar Bluff State Park for 27 years and retired in 1989. He was veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He served on the Ellis USD 388 school board for five years.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9139, Knights of Columbus Third Degree and Fourth Degree Assembly, all of Ellis.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; four sons, Greg Leiker and wife, Sandra, Prattville, Ala., Bradley Leiker and wife, Julie, Norton, Don Leiker and wife, Diane, Aurora, Colo., and Brian Leiker and wife, Monica, Austin, Texas; a daughter, Amy Roberts and husband, Tim, Aurora; a brother, Robert Leiker and wife, Velma, Hays; four sisters, Armella Thompson, Russell, Aquina Rajewski and husband, Howard, Vincent, Theresa Haselhorst, Hays, and Mary Schmidtberger and husband, Dan, Hill City; two brothers-in-law, George Gatschet, Hays, and Tom Wiesner, Georgia; two sisters-in-law, Ada Leiker, Great Bend, and Ann Leiker, Hays; eight grandchildren, Logan Roberts (Corbin), Brianna Lessin (Aaron), Taylor Roberts, Larissa Roberts, Reese Leiker, Brooke Leiker, Gabriel Leiker and Benjamin Leiker; two step-grandchildren, Drew and Ryan Schrum; and four great-grandchildren, Brian Lessin, Peyton Lessin, Brody Lessin and Aiden Roberts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Gilbert, Elmer and Neon Leiker; and three sisters, Rosie Wiesner, Luella Dreiling and Ethel Gatschet.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis; burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Ellis, with military honors by Ellis VFW Post No. 9139.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, both at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays, KS 67601, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
A Class of 1955 rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, a vigil at 7 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus Third Degree and Fourth Degree rosary at 7:30 p.m., all at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Fidelis Catholic Church or Holy Cross Charities Inc., in care of the mortuary.
