Leo J. Wellbrock, 80, Hays, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at his home.

He was born Aug. 31, 1933, in Catharine to Louis and Louise (Leikam) Wellbrock. He married Kay Hatfield on Aug. 16, 1952, in Wichita.

He worked for the city of Hays as the director of public works for 42 years. He was a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph Military School, Hays.

He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, spending time with his family and the grandchildren's sports.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Wellbrock, of the home; a son, Steve Wellbrock and wife, Jolene, Hays; four daughters, Pam Whitham and husband, David, Broken Arrow, Okla.; Kelly Heifner and husband, Jim, Sandy Seems and Tina Dix and husband, Doug, all of Hays; a brother, Richard "Dick" Wellbrock and wife, Kim, Hays; a sister, Mary Wellbrock, Broken Arrow; a sister-in-law, Maxine Wellbrock, Hays; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Louis Wellbrock Jr.; and two sons, Gary Wellbrock and Wayne Wellbrock.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1805 Vine, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.

A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays, KS 67601.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday, both at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hays Medical Center or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
