Leon Edward Rigby, 69, formerly of Hays, died Monday, July 21, 2014, at his home in Topeka.

He was born March 18, 1945, to Kenneth "Pat" and Paula (Walter) Rigby and was raised in the Hays area.

He spent the majority of his working career in lumber and building materials and later owned his own mowing service. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Vietnam.

He enjoyed trout fishing in the Missouri Ozarks and bird hunting in western Kansas.

Survivors include wife, Karen Rigby, Topeka; two sons, Craig Rigby and wife, Leslie, and Patrick Rigby and wife, Dana; three sisters, Connie Davis and husband, Tom, Soldotna, Alaska, Connie Winters and husband, Alan, Topeka, and Cathy Rigby, Oklahoma City; and three grandchildren, Jack Rigby, Fort Worth, Texas, and Tage and Greenlee Rigby, Kirksville, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, JoLynn; his parents; his mother, Juanita VanPool; and a brother, Olis "Ray" Rigby.

A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, followed by a lunch reception at Hays VFW Hall, 2106 Vine.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hays VFW Post 9076 or donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.
