Linus H. Schmeidler, 87, Hays, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born July 8, 1926, on the family farm in Severin to Frank and Elizabeth (Windholz) Schmeidler. He was a 1944 graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy and served in the U.S. Army as a chaplain during the Korean War.

He married LuVerna K. Stroemel on Sept. 14, 1957, at St. Ann Catholic Church, Walker. He worked at Travenol in Hays and also was a floor covering installer for Vitzum's Inc. for many years.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, Legend of Mary, Minister of Praise, life member of the Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council No. 1325, VFW Post No. 9076, and a life member of Hays American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, of the home in Hays; two brothers, Alfred Schmeidler and wife, Theresa, Great Bend, and Kenny Schmeidler and wife, Betty, Hays; a sister Helen Schulte, Russell; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Norbert, Marcellus, Martin, James and Wendelin Schmeidler; and three sisters, Evelyn Rupp, Mary Karlin and Edna Karlin.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, with military honors by Hays VFW and American Legion.

Friends can call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

A perpetual adorers service will be at 5 p.m., a Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 5:30, a parish vigil will be at 6, and a Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 6:30, all Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials in memory of Linus are suggested to Thomas More Prep-Marian High School or to Masses in care of the funeral home.
