Marguerite L. Black, 86, Hays, formerly of Rexford, died Sunday, July 15, 2012, after a long battle with cancer at Hays Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 25, 1925, near Selden to Elsie (Kober) and Joseph Maddock. She graduated from high school in Rexford.

She married Harvey Jack May Jr. in 1946. She later married Andrew John "Andy" Black in Tucumcari, N.M. He preceded her in death Feb. 4, 2009. She worked at Rexford-Golden Plains High School and Rexford Cafe. She moved to Hays in 2008, living at Epworth Towers then most recently at Good Samaritan Society, Hays.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, thrift shops, writing letters and socializing.

Survivors include three children, Randall May and wife, Cheryl, Plano, Texas, and John Black and Julie Black, both of Hays; four grandchildren, Adam and Mandy May, Acton, Mass., Amy (May) Ploutz and husband, John, Chesterfield, Mo., Jamie Zerr and wife, Janae (Glidewell), Oak Grove, Ky., and Jeff Zerr, Hays.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rexford Community Church, Rexford; inurnment in Rexford Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Dreiling-Schmidt Cancer Center, Hays Medical Center Hospice or the donor's choice in care of Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.
