Marion Lee Counts, 79, Lawrence, formerly of Russell, died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence.

He was born Feb. 26, 1935, in Hays to Kellis and Sylvia (Weese) Counts. He grew up in the Fairport area and graduated from Paradise High School.

He married Geraldine M. Keil on Oct. 11, 1959, in Russell. He and his wife co-founded MG Oil Inc. in 1994 and operated the company until he retired in 2011, when he and his wife moved to Lawrence. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving from 1954 to 1957.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, of the home; a son, Curtis Counts, Russell; a daughter, Jacqueline Counts, Lawrence; a sister, Vinita Finnesy, Goodland; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.  

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church, Russell; burial in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, with military rites by Russell VFW Post No. 6240 honor guard.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with family present from 6 to 7 p.m. at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell.

Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Loving Paws–Animal Therapy in care of the mortuary.
