Marjorie M. Laas, 93, Hays, died Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 23, 1920, in Fredrick to William J. and Dessa M. Gregory Holmes.

She was a 1939 graduate of Beeler High School.

She married Rudy E. Laas on Aug. 10, 1940, in LaCrosse. He preceded her in death Sept. 15, 1963. She was the Ness County Register of Deeds for more than 20 years.

Survivors include a son, Kent Laas and wife, Theresa, Hays; a daughter, Pam Rein and husband, Norman, Hays; grandchildren Crista and Matt Carlile, Sara and Adam Olberding, Travis and Shannon Rein; great-grandchildren Devon Carlile, Cash and Royal Olberding, Aaron and Zoe Rein; two brothers-in-law, Don Whipple and Joel Laas; and two sisters-in-law, Martina Holmes and Mary Bain.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dessa Mae; a brother, Max Holmes; sisters, Garnet Shover, Marie Stum, Joan Whipple and Bonnie Ruth Holmes.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Ness City; burial in Ness City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.

Memorials are suggested to Hays Maranatha Christian School; St. Jude's Children Hospital; or Humane Society of the High Plains, Hays.
