Marla Marvis (LaVoy) Schleder, 63, Catharine, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at her home.

She was born July 11, 1949, in Mitchell, S.D., to Marvin and Adeline (Vanderhors) LaVoy. She farmed with her father in South Dakota and worked for the parks and recreation department for the state of Oklahoma for a few years. She was a flagman and an equipment operator for a number of years in Kansas and retired in 2003. She moved to Catharine in 2005. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble, her family and her grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Schleder and wife, Dianne Johnson, Hays; a daughter, DeYon Witte and husband, Roger, Catharine; a brother, Roger LaVoy and wife, Sharon, South Dakota; four grandchildren, Christopher Witte, Caydon Schleder, Gabre'ille Witte and Daltyn Schleder; and a great-grandchild, Mackenzie Witte.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband, Dennis Schleder; a brother, Darrel LaVoy; and a sister, Darlene Myers.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays, KS 67601; private inurnment in St. Catherine Cemetery, Catharine.

Family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to the Schleder grandchildren in care of the mortuary.
