Mary K. (Baum) Mermis, 91, Gorham, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society/Hutchinson Village, Hutchinson.

She was born Nov. 13, 1921, in Susank to Andrew and Katherine E. (Schmidt) Baum. She attended school at Susank and moved southeast of Gorham in 1947.

She married Edwin "Eddie" Mermis on April 20, 1947, in Walker. He preceded her in death June 16, 2004. She was a homemaker. She moved to Gorham to live with her sister in 2004, and in January of this year she moved to Hutchinson.

She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Walker, St. Mary Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella, both of Gorham.

She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, Royals baseball and KU basketball.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Hornbuckle and husband, Steve, Hutchinson; four brothers, Leo Baum, and wife, Loretta, Hoisington, George Baum, Buena Park, Calif., Kenny Baum, Sardinia, Ohio, Jake Baum and wife, Mary, Hemet, Calif.; five sisters, Marge Bissett, Liberal, Viola Brown, Plainville, Josephine Shreve, Uvalde, Texas, Hilda Jacobs, Gorham, and Lydia Kaufman and husband, Gary, Great Bend; two grandchildren, Jason Hornbuckle and Tonya Navarro and husband, Darick; and two great-grandchildren, Gabe Navarro and Mia Navarro.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Eddie Baum and Emil Baum; and two sisters, Helen Wolford and Rosie Thompson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Gorham; burial in St. Ann Cemetery, Walker.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Cline's Mortuary, 412 Main, Victoria, KS 67601, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the church.

A Gorham Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, followed by a vigil at 7 p.m., both at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to Harden Hospice, Hutchinson, or St. Ann Cemetery, Walker, in care of the mortuary.
