Mary Louise (Maxwell) Sorenson

Mary Louise (Maxwell) Sorenson, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Presbyterian Manor, Salina.

She was born Sept. 2, 1927, near Quinter to George Earl and Mary (Hargitt) Maxwell. She was a 1944 graduate of Quinter High School. She obtained a bachelor's degree in education from Fort Hays State University and master's degrees in elementary education at FHSU and in math at Florida State University.

She married Rexford Scott Sorenson on March 20, 1971. He preceded her in death in November 2010. She retired from teaching in 1988, but enjoyed being the bookkeeper for Salina True Value Hardware for the following 12 years.

Survivors include three sisters, Loree Holaday, Grinnell, Anita Bray, Hawthorne, Nev., and Luella Hadland, Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada; and two brothers, Gordon Maxwell, Salina, and Laverne Maxwell, Quinter.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, Quinter; burial in Baker Township Cemetery, Quinter.

Visitation will be from noon until time of service Friday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church, Quinter, in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 S. Main, Quinter, KS 67752.
