Laura Grace Meier, 74, Hays, died Sunday, April 29, 2012, at St. John’s of Hays Health Care Center.

She was born March 16, 1938, in Garden City to Sherman and Gladys (Gooden) Stillwell. She married Albert John “Al” Meier on Aug. 28, 1956, in Garden City.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Hays since 1968. She previously lived in Dodge City, Pratt and Great Bend.

She was active with the Humane Society of the High Plains in Hays. She loved her family, cooking, sewing and golf.

Survivors include her husband, Albert John “Al” Meier, Longmont, Colo.; a son, Greg Meier and wife, Christy, Gunnison, Colo.; two daughters, Debbie Brown, Longmont, and Beth Meier, Lakewood, Colo.; two sisters, Frances Norris, Garden City, and Donna Ritch, Fort Collins, Colo.; three grandchildren, Chelsea Meier, Zachary Meier and wife, Melyssa, Denise Stephenson and David Borden; and two great-grandchildren, Devin Sterling and Drake Albert.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Maynard Stillwell; two sisters, Juanita Kells and Anna Mae Staley; and a son-in-law, Arthur Brown.

Private family services were Saturday at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays, KS 67601; inurnment was in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Humane Society of the High Plains in care of the mortuary.
