Melvin A. 'Meff' Rupp

Melvin A. "Meff" Rupp, 87, Hays, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at his home.

He was born Sept. 8, 1926, in Hays to Louis and Clara (Wolf) Rupp.

He married Rose Mary Binder on Feb. 19, 1951, in Russell. He was a roustabout in the oilfield, working for BS&B Tank Co., Oneil Tank Co., Hanks Tank Co. and M&W Tank Co. He also built grain bins for BS&B. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II.

He was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church and Hays American Legion.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening, crafts and crossword puzzles, and spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; five sons, Joe Rupp, Kansas City, Mo., Richard Rupp and wife, Rose, Buckeye, Ariz., David Rupp and Lou Rupp, both of Hays, and Vernon Rupp, Houston; a daughter, Rosalie Schmeidler and husband, Alan, Hays; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Rupp; and two sisters, Lillian Foster and Garneth Minor.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, with military honors by Hays American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine.

A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hays Medical Center or Hays American Legion in care of the funeral home.
